The CPGCE is a learned society. It furthers the technical education and interests of its members by organizing a program of technical meetings of interdisciplinary engineering interest covering, in general but not necessarily confined to, those engineering disciplines represented by the sponsoring Institutions. Attendance at a Technical meeting counts two hours towards the requirement for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Currently all meetings are held in Calgary. Attempts have been made (and will continue to be made) to encourage extension of this program to other centres in the region (eg Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Saskatoon, Regina).

The CPGCE offers an annual International Engineering Award (Chartered Engineers' Award). This award is an open competition for any student studying an engineering discipline covered by our sponsors. Studies must be at a University or Technical College within the Canadian Prairies region.
